CTNS here. The CTNS corporate research institute has completed the ISO26262 training and has now also completed the ISO21434 training, acquiring the qualification. CTNS is currently challenging the development of a 40kW class EV battery pack and BMS through the autonomous driving E-BUS battery pack development project.

To succeed in this project, it requires high technical skills that meet the international standards of ISO26262 (Safety function) and ISO/SAE21434 (Cyber security), which ensure the functional safety of electric vehicles and security against external hacking attacks.

As part of the successful project execution process, we have completed both ISO 26262 functional safety training and ISO 21434 automotive cybersecurity engineering international standard training and have acquired the qualifications.

ISO 26262 is organized in the above posting. ▲

What is ISO21434?

ISO 21434 is an international standard for automotive cybersecurity engineering, defining the cybersecurity risk management requirements and activities throughout the entire lifecycle of a vehicle. This standard specifies engineering requirements for the electrical and electronic systems from the concept of the vehicle, product development, production, operation, maintenance, and disposal.

ISO 21434, jointly issued by SAE and ISO to meet the security requirements of the automotive industry, includes content on software development and subsystems not covered by the existing ISO 26262.

It is also used as a standard for obtaining UNECE’s Vehicle Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS) certification, so it is often complied with alongside ISO26262. Ultimately, ISO 21434 training teaches how to comply with such vehicle security engineering.

Advantages of ISO21434

✔️ By complying with ISO 21434, you can protect vehicles from security threats by reflecting cybersecurity considerations for the vehicle’s electrical/electronic systems. The cybersecurity risk management process ensures the safety of the vehicle and its users and effectively manages risks.

✔️ ISO 21434 ensures customer safety by increasing the reliability of the vehicle through thorough testing and development and identifying vulnerabilities.

✔️ By meeting the cybersecurity requirements of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, it satisfies the conditions necessary for obtaining type approval for vehicles. It also includes cybersecurity compliance requirements for suppliers responsible for the supply chain of electrical/electronic systems within the vehicle, thereby strengthening the security of the entire supply chain.

What are the benefits of ISO 21434 training? Let’s look at the benefits of ISO 21434 and understand the effectiveness of the training.

Effectiveness of ISO21434 Training

✔️ Improvement of manufacturers’ cybersecurity knowledge: Acquire expertise and skills in vehicle cybersecurity, enhancing the security of vehicle systems.

✔️ Regulatory compliance during product manufacturing: Learn how to understand and comply with the cybersecurity requirements of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.

✔️ Governance and process verification: Learn how to verify the effectiveness of cybersecurity management system governance and the effectiveness of cybersecurity policies and processes.

✔️ Enhanced risk management capabilities: Develop the ability to set and verify cybersecurity objectives and requirements based on threat analysis and risk assessment.

✔️ Training of internal auditors within the organization: Equip yourself with the capacity to perform cybersecurity audits within the organization and provide opportunities for improvement measures.

Such training not only contributes to enhancing expertise in the field of vehicle cybersecurity and strengthening the organization’s cybersecurity system but also adds value by enabling internal audits to be conducted independently.

This ISO 21434 training was conducted for some members of the CTNS research institute’s power control team, and all have completed it. Following the success of ISO26262, the ISO21434 certificate is scheduled to be issued.

CTNS will accelerate the development of high-quality EV battery packs that meet international standards based on these technical trainings. Please watch over the future of CTNS as we lay the groundwork for becoming a global company. Thank you.
